I'd like an equal partnership--where I don't end up spending more time helping another with her or his work and less on mine. Therefore, I'd prefer a critique partner of same if not better level of writing skills and experience as I have. However, I'll be open to explore a possible partnership with an unpublished writer if there's something in her or his writer's profile I see that suggests she or he could be a good reader and writes well enough (I will request a sample).

In particular, I'm looking for three long-term critique partners who can answer the following questions to my satisfaction:

1. Are you able to commit yourself to the pace and work necessary to be an engaged and responsive critique partner ? Specifically, would you be able to critique about 10-25 pages of manuscript sent to you every two weeks? (Don't worry--I am very flexible to suit mutually convenient schedules, when changed circumstances require it.)
2. How many years have you been writing?
3. Are you published by an independent third party publisher? If so, please list and describe your published works (with dates), and feel free to brag about your writing awards, if any.
4. What genres do you like reading and writing in?
5. What are the last three books you’ve read?
6. Do you have any biases against minority characters, specifically, that your enjoyment of a work would be negatively affected by the gender, race, nationality, or culture of the main character?
7. Are you religious or subscribe to a particular religion? If so, would your religious affiliation prevent you from having an open mind about secular-minded characters or characters that critique religion?

I'm a first generation immigrant Filipino in the U.S. who was a practicing lawyer in one of the most prestigious law firms in Manila when I met my American husband. The demands of motherhood and the challenges of starting over as an immigrant compelled me to be the at-home parent. While raising our children, I rediscovered my childhood passion for writing. Now, I'm an award-winning American author published in fiction, poetry, and creative non-fiction. I’m the author of the Driftless Unsolicited Award-winning novella, FAITH HEALER, published and released in 2016 by Brain Mill Press. My essay, “Gatekeepers and Gatecrashers in Contemporary American Poetry: Reflections of a Filipino Immigrant Poet in the United States,” was chosen for Black Lawrence Press’ 2015 anthology, OTHERS WILL ENTER THE GATES: IMMIGRANT POETS ON POETRY, INFLUENCES, AND WRITING IN AMERICA. My poetry appears in, among many others, Crosswinds Poetry Journal, New Millennium Writings, Reed Magazine, The Earthen Lamp Journal, and Lyrical Iowa. For eight years now, I have written a monthly column for the Chicago-based immigrant newsmagazine, ViaTimes. The first time I submitted to a nationwide writing contest, my short story, PORTRAIT OF THE OTHER LADY, won first place and was published in the November 28, 2004 Sunday Arts & Living edition of the Ventura County Star. I'm currently writing a historical novel about an American woman who travels at the turn of the twentieth century to the new U.S. territory, the Philippine Islands. I have a Women's Fiction/Contemporary Rom-Com novel manuscript, THE ACCIDENTAL ITALIAN, penned under my pseudonym, Sophie Valente, which I'm currently querying agents for.
