I am a reading specialist who loves and collects children's literature. Every child should learn to read and learn to love books!

Gracious honesty. I'm new at this, but tell me what you really think. I'd love to connect with someone who has already been published and is further down the road than I am. I would also like someone who specifically writes (and possibly illustrates) children's picture books.

I am working on a series of children's picture books. Each book is a different dog character with specific things to overcome. Each character was inspired by real children I have known.

Sci-Fiction

So many.... Children's books: all the classics like Charlotte's Web,  The Whipping Boy, and Sign of the  Beaver. I also enjoy MANY picture book authors like Eric Carle, Cynthia Rylant, Mo Willems, and Eric Carle, as well as undiscovered authors like Alastair Heim.  Adult fiction: To Kill a Mockingbird, The Great Gatsby, The Help, Where the Crawdads Sing. Currently: The Secret to Southern Charm and  I Never Thought of it That Way

I am a mom at heart. I have four children who I adore and devoted about 13 years to homeschooling them before I went back to teaching. They are all grown and gone now except the youngest little birdie who is still in the nest. First grade is my favorite grade level. I have a huge heart for dyslexic students (one of my four has a healthy dose) and have devoted the second half of my life to teaching these kids with Orton Gillingham methods, an intense reading intervention program. I love Latin. I love grammar. I like writing but not sure if I am good at it. I like art/drawing/crafts and would consider illustrating my own children's books, but not sure if I'm good at that either. I love interior design and DIY. I like things to be balanced and the rhythm and rhyme of many children's books. Ultimately, I'd like to write controlled, decodable chapter books for dyslexic students who are 3-5th grade but reading at 1-2nd grade reading level. There are more of these books being published all the time, but we can never have too many books, can we?!
