I seek a long term writing partner. I write historical magical urban medical fiction. Sometimes I take myself too seriously.

Writing Interests

I seek a long term relationship with an open-minded individual with diverse interests, perhaps from a different walk of life, to chat and share stories, to share and grow, and ready to dive in to our reading and writing together. I need a critique and writing partner, like-minded in the right ways and divergent in others. I would like to be more soulful, more generous, more honest and truthful, and I would ask the same. I've been writing as a hobbyist for almost 10 years, and I'm ready to push myself to a new level. I'm looking for a friend and match who is willing to walk beside me, sometimes running, other times walking backwards or leaping in place, to be a supportive companion on the otherwise lonely pathway of the writing life.

I write historical fiction, magical realism, urban fiction, medical fiction, science fiction. Sometimes one or all at the same time. My current WIP is way too expansive, but it has good bones, and I can't seem to shake it. I'm influenced by old stories and folklore. I love science. I have published several papers in medical journals.

Romance and erotica are not for me.

I read an eclectic mix of books - Most memorable and recent reads are The Magicians, Dr. Mutter's Marvels, The Witches of New York, My Name is Mary Sutter, The Whiskey Rebels, No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency, Miss Peregrine's Peculiar Children, The Giver series, Handmaid's Tale, American Gods, Fledgling, Ender's Game, A Blind Man Can See How Much I Love You, Middlesex, The Hours, The Time Traveler's Wife, Life of Pi, The Martian, A Beautiful Poison, Circus Mirandus, Requiem for a Dream, The Nix, Wonder, The Bloodletter's Daughter, The Girl of Fire and Thorns, Soy Sauce for Beginners, The Night Circus, and of course Harry Potter. I want to read more stories written by people from diverse backgrounds. I love Nick Bantock's books and art and am a believer in Big Magic.

I'm a physician by trade and practice medicine in an urban and underserved community. I am therefore obsessed with epidemics like syphilis, plague, HIV, and heroin. I am troubled by health and social disparities, and I frequently write to make sense of those disparities from a cultural, economic, historical, and literary perspective. But I like to read fun things too, and I probably should write that way as well. I often take myself too seriously.
I follow blogs about climbing Mount Everest and hiking the Appalachian and Pacific Crest Trails. I blogged about books for about 8 years but stopped when a patient found me online. I like to cook and take silly pictures to post. I'm a mom, can't get enough yoga and meditation, and am trying to eat healthier. In the winter, I knit hats and scarves. I like coffee and love to sleep.
