Someone who will be honest and will want to help me make the best of my story.
Fantasy, Mythological Fantasy - using existing information from mythos used in a new way.
Non-fiction, memoirs, and horror (mostly because I scare easily and like to sleep soundly).
How dare this question be asked! I never know how to limit this response, so please consider this a list that is constantly evolving and in no particular order:
The Silmarillion by JR Tolkien (I also love LOTR and The Hobbit)
Pride & Prejudice by Jane Austen
The Ember in the Ashes series by Sabaa Tahir
The Cursebreakers series by Brigid Kemmerer
The Wicked Lovely series by Melissa Marr (I'd read anything she puts out, and have nearly all her children's books too)
Crown of Wishes by Roshani Chokshi (the whole series is fantastic, but I am obsessed with this one in particular)
Ahsoka by EK Johnston - yep, Star Wars fan here.
A Darker Shade of Magic series by VE Schwab (will also read anything she writes)
Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi
A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J Maas (I have a soft spot for her books, but especially this one)
The Winners Trilogy by Marie Rutkoski
Nearly anything by Laurel K Hamilton, particularly the Merry Gentry series
I'm also desperately awaiting the ending of A Song of Ice and Fire by GRRM. Seriously, I needed those books in 2020.
I'm clearly an avid reader of all things fantasy. Reading this genre is primarily where I'm comfortable, since I look to it as my escape from reality. I also feel most drawn to it as a writer, since I feel I'm able to create a world that I'd want to live in.
I'm a mother, to two fantastic little boys, and work fulltime at a university. I cosplay occasionally, mainly book characters that live rent free in my mind, and I make flower crowns (like the one pictured - which I haven't been able to sell at festivals - thanks COVID).
I had an idea recently (in the last several months) and for the first time I've got a fully outlined duology, with characters that live inside my head. I've always considered myself a reader, but now I feel like for the first time I can consider myself a writer. I know that to improve this skill and artform, I need to reach out to others (something I've never been overly good at). If you've made it this far in my profile, highest of fives - maybe once it's safe, I'll send cookies.
