I love a good comedy - light on romance, heavy on plot and character building. I'm working on a novel-length story about fame and travel contrasting with everyday life.

Writing Interests

- Someone fun who likes to have a laugh, enjoys chatting about writing/books and doesn't mind reading what is usually classed as chic-lit (I personally hate that word - conjures up bad memories of cliche characters and predictable plots).
- Someone who can be positive and supportive whilst providing (kind) constructive criticism - It's the way I critique too (years of experience as a community college teacher).
- A keen eye for inconsistencies in character development and able to recognise problems with story flow/plotholes would be great.
- Someone who's confident with grammar and spelling would also be helpful (I'm good but not an expert).

I'm mainly into writing light-hearted comedy these days though I've written all kinds of 'stuff' in the past.
I've dabbled in poetry, short stories and have edited a range of material that has come my way through my job as a graphic designer (newsletters, brochures, annual reports etc). I've also worked freelance as a movie and restaurant reviewer for a local paper.
I'm currently trying to write my first novel-length piece about a jet-setting celebrity and the (extra)ordinary girl who keeps him grounded. There's a lot about travel, luxury and social media juxtaposed with the regular but contented lifestyle of the MC. It's kinda-sorta in the style of Sophie Kinsella's books and the 'Brigette Jones' series...
It also has some subtle undertones of Dorian Gray, Pride and Prejudice, Greek Mythology, Neil Gaiman (oddness) and Lifestyles of the rich and famous... Okay, I'll stop with the weird descriptions before I scare everyone away!!!

I'll read just about anything, though horror's not really my thing. I rarely read memoirs - so I might not be too helpful/knowledgeable in that genre. I'm also not a huge SciFi fan but I'm happy to read it if it's got a good character-driven storyline.

Some of my favourites and in no particular order:
• One Day - David Nicholls
• The Song of Achilles - Madeline Miller
• Neverwhere - Neil Gaiman
• A song of Ice and Fire (Game of Thrones) - George RR Martin,
• Bridget Jone's Diary - Helen Fielding,
• If you could see me now - Cecilia Ahern,
• If I stay - Gayle Foreman,
• The Outlander series - Diana Gabaldon
• How to kill a rock star - Tiffanie DeBartolo,
• Gone with the wind (it's long but way better than the movie) - Margaret Mitchell
• The Mary Poppins series - P. L. Travers (when I was a kid)

I used to write a lot of poetry and short stories in college and lately I've been trying to get back into it. I'm a graphic designer, part-time teacher, photographer and mum to two boys. I love reading, writing, photography, watching movies, baking, snowboarding and travel... this is starting to sound like a dating profile!!! I try to write every day but sometimes 'life' and procrastination get in the way.
