I'd like a partner who was serious about writing: is involved in a writing group like SCBWI, has taken classes and webinars, and is well read in children's literature. I often write in rhyme so someone who enjoys and is familiar with the rules of rhyme would be very helpful.
Most of my manuscripts are picture books. I love science and nature and tend to write about nonfiction topics a lot. But I also have several fun, imaginative pieces I'd love to polish and send out. I also write for magazines and had a piece published in Cobblestone Magazine.
I don't like horror. I'm not a big reader of science fiction so probably would not be a good critique partner for that.
I cut my reader's teeth on Margaret Suttons' Judy Bolton Mystery series. Melissa Stewart is my new favorite NF children's author. I love so many books - here are a few: Quiltmaker's Gift, Apples to Oregon, A Wish for Wings that Work, Audubon: Painter of Birds in the Wild Frontier, Stone Girl - Bone Girl, Anna Hibiscus series and PB, I could go on but I'll stop here.
My latest picture book, Whale Fall Cafe, was published by Tilbury House in April of 2021. I have a science background and am very interested in the natural world and in sharing it's amazing beauty with children. I was a children's librarian for 11 years - LOVED it! I'm also a storyteller and often create my own stories to tell. My debut picture book, Mighty Mac - the Bridge That Michigan Built, came out in 2018. I enjoy working with words: finding the right one, building sentences that create images and scenes that draw the reader in, sharing information in a way that intrigues and entertains. I think my years of experience ordering children's books and reading to children gives me a strong background to help other writers hone their work to be the best it can be.
